There is an important update for the individuals wanting employment-based green cards. The candidates who wish to file in May 2024 must have an application date prior to the date listed in the visa category and country in the bulletin. There are two main types of applications wanting the Green Card namely the family-sponsored and employment-based.
Family-sponsored applications
For the year 2024, the limit for family- sponsored applications is set at 2,26,000. Moreover, limits are also set on each country. A total 7% limit is set on each country for family-sponsored applications and employer-based preference.
Employer-based preferences
Here are the five categories in the employment-based preferences :
- Priority Workers - Individuals having extraordinary talent and abilities in their respective fields are in this list.
- Members of the Professions Holding Advanced Degrees - All the individuals having advanced degrees are in this category and it constitutes 28.6% of the total employment-based preferences.
- Skilled Workers, Professionals and Other Workers - Almost 10,000 visas are given to individuals doing unskilled labor.
- Certain Special Immigrants - It includes groups such as U.S. foreign service employees, religious groups and U.S. armed forces.
- Employment Creation - This constitutes 7.1% of the total global level. Out of which, 32% is for specific purposes, 10% is for investors, and 2% is for those involved in infrastructure related activities.
